John S. Kohut

John Stephen Kohut, age 82 of Elkland passed away at his home on Sunday, October 15, 2023.  Born April 3, 1941 in Corning, NY, he was the son of the late John J. and Frances M. (Piecuch) Kohut.  John graduated from the University of Cincinnati and built his career as a Software Engineering Manager with Control Data Corporation, where he was highly regarded among his peers, upper management, and those who worked for him. During his time in California, he was recognized for his years of service by holding the title of Chairman Emeritus of the Loaves & Fishes Family Kitchen in San Jose, CA. Upon retirement, he became an avid cut glass collector and was well known in the cut glass community.  He was Treasurer of the National American Cut Glass Association, a member of the Eastern Lakes Chapter of the ACGA, Chairman of the Catalogue Committee for ACGA, owner of Brilliant Mitre Antiques, a docent at the Corning Museum of Glass, and was a member of St. Thomas Catholic Church where he served on the Parish Council and Finance Committee.  Throughout his life, he valued and was guided by his devout Catholic faith.  John was admired for his intelligence, his generosity, and his devotion to family. He will be deeply missed by his loved ones.

John is survived by his siblings: Julia A. (Thomas) Baker of Knoxville, Francis Mark (Jean) Kohut of Elkland, Michael Kohut of Osceola, Thomas (Sheila) Kohut of Osceola, Mary (Thomas) Owlett of Wellsboro, Katherine L. (Steven) King of Mansfield, Andrea (Richard) Ketchum of Painted Post, NY and many nieces and nephews.  He was preceded in death by his parents and a brother, David.  A Funeral Mass will be held at St. Thomas Catholic Church, Elkland on Saturday, October 21st at 11:00 AM with Rev. Jacek Bialkowski officiating.  Burial will follow in Highland Cemetery.  Flowers will be provided by family.  Memorial donations in John’s honor may be made to St. Thomas the Apostle Church, Elkland, PA, or to your local food bank.
