John R. Wood

John R. Wood age 95 of Knoxville passed away peacefully at his home surrounded by family on Wednesday, September 27, 2023. Born January 14, 1928 in Deerfield Twp., he was the son of the late Russell C. and Ruth (Edgcomb) Wood.  John graduated from Knoxville High School as the valedictorian of his class.  He married Phebe Berdanier in 1953 and together they have shared 69 loving years and raised five wonderful children.  John followed generations of farming, hunting and loving the great outdoors. He was respected for his farm management and was always lending a helping hand. He was active in many local community and county organizations and a lifelong member and former trustee of the Knoxville Methodist Church.  John will be remembered for his positive attitude and looking for a cheerful spin to life’s hardships.  People enjoyed his company, listening to his stories of the valley as he remembered it in his era.  Most of all John was a family man and good neighbor, giving endless love and support to all.  He will be greatly missed by his loving family; wife, Phebe; children, Kitsie Reeves of CT, Roxie Gaines of OH, Douglas and Lori Wood of Painted Post, Phil and Joanna Wood of Knoxville and Mark Wood of Rochester; grandchildren, Russell, Jesse, Kara (Joshua), Amber (Brian), Breana (Eric), Matt, Amiee (Ryan) and Stephanie (Ben); great grandchildren, Caly, Jordan, Ben, Wren, Titus, Shiloh, Thatcher, Elena, Emilia and Evalyn; sister, Mary Wetmore and brother, Wally Wood.  Family will receive friends at the Knoxville Yoked Church on Saturday, October 7th from 11:00 AM – 1:00 PM.  A memorial service will be held immediately following at 1:00 PM.  Private burial for family will be in Riverside Cemetery.  I lieu of flowers memorial donations in John’s memory may be made to your local volunteer fire department or ambulance association.  Arrangements are in care of Kenyon Funeral Home, Elkland.  www.kenyonfuneralhome.com
