Lucinda Swan Obituary

Lucinda (Cindy) Ann Swan returned to God in the early hours of May 24, 2023. Cindy was born June 1, 1943, in Nelson, PA and was the eldest child of Ralph Roger King and Alberta King (Phelps). She graduated from Elkland High School in 1961. Cindy married Laurence (Larry) Woodrow Swan on December 31, 1959. Cindy and Laurence have five children: Shannon (Daniel) Wagner of Rochester, NY; Stephen (Shelley) Swan of Halfmoon, NY; Michael (Ingrid) Swan of Haddon Heights, NJ; Craig (Paula) Swan of Toledo, Ohio; and Erinn Swan of Rochester, New York. The couple has 11 grandchildren and 2 great grandchildren: Amanda (Adam) Wagner-Reynolds of Newark, NY; Michael Wagner of Rochester, NY; Stephanie Wagner of Rochester, NY; Jacqueline (Alex) Ramirez of Tallahassee, FL; Christopher (Elaina) Swan of Mechanicville, NY; Stacey (Robert) Williams of Clifton Park, NY; Kyrstin Swan of New York, NY; Hayden Swan of Philadelphia, PA; John, Christopher, and Lincoln Swan of Toledo, OH; Brayden Williams of Clifton Park, NY; and Bruno Swan of Mechanicville, NY. Cindy was a loving and nurturing mother, a faithful wife, and above all a follower of Jesus Christ. She loved reading and spent much time studying the Bible and praying. Her favorite scripture was Proverbs 3:5-6: “Trust in the Lord with all your heart and lean not on your own understanding; in all your ways submit to him, and he will make your paths straight.” Cindy was active in church, serving many ways through the years. She sang in the choir, participated in Bible studies, acted as a sign language interpreter, and was always ready to lend a hand and an encouraging word. Cindy took her responsibilities and her faith seriously, but she never took herself too seriously. She loved to laugh and enjoyed practical jokes. Her quiet humor came from her father, Roger. When she was ten, he gave her the gift she most wanted: a BB gun. Thinking it an unfit gift for a young lady, her mother Alberta insisted the gun be returned to the store. Cindy’s disappointment was abated when her father began to take her to the dump and use both a rifle and a pistol for target shooting. She became a good markswoman, and her mother never found out. Cindy was preceded in death by her parents Roger and Alberta, and her stepfather John Phelps. She will be missed by her children, grandchildren, and great grandchildren, and by her brother Bruce King (Milea) of Nelson, PA, sister Susanne King-Olsen (Roger) of Madison, AL, and stepbrothers Douglas Phelps (Mylena) of Farmington, PA, and Norman Phelps (Laura) of Williamsport, PA. She also leaves behind many nephews, nieces, and cousins. Join us in the celebration of Cindy’s life on Saturday, June 10, 2023, at the United Church of Nelson, 75 Village Drive, Nelson, PA 16940. Visitation will be from 10-11:30 AM, with the Memorial Service at 11:45AM-12:45 PM. Interment will be at the Nelson Cemetery on Cemetery Road immediately following the service.  Arrangements are in care of Kenyon Funeral Home, Elkland.
