Richard D. Vargeson

Richard D. Vargeson, age 82 of Osceola passed away on Friday, October 29, 2021 at Robert Packer Hospital in Sayre. Born April 5, 1939 in Blossburg, he was the son of the late LaRue and Sarah (Giantomasi) Vargeson. Dick was a US Navy veteran, when his parents passed away in 1958, he left the military to raise his brother and sisters. Dick worked many jobs throughout his life but one of his favorites was at Soldiers & Sailors Hospital. He was a newspaper reporter for many years; he loved to write and authored three books. Dick was a very active member in his community and he served wherever he saw a need. He was mayor of Westfield for many years, actively involved with the Historical Society and the American Legion. He was currently serving as president of the Senior Center. If Dick saw an opportunity to make a difference, he eagerly and wholeheartedly embraced it. Dick enjoyed hunting and making crafts. He loved to travel and dance. Dick found joy in being outside with his wife Jennie, planting flowers, gardening, bird watching and visiting on their swing. Always close by was his faithful dog, Bella. He is survived by his wife, Jennie; children, Roy and Sharon Vargeson, Rodney and Julia Vargeson, Ricky and Ruby Vargeson, Christina and Gary Stahli and Robert Vargeson; grandchildren, Michael and Heidi Vargeson, Matt and Chelsea Vargeson, Ryan Vargeson, Bruce and Karrissa Stahli, Scott Stahli, Adam and Stevie Vargeson and Jeremy Vargeson; nine great grandchildren, Camden, Aubrey and Emmah Stahli and Tyler, Makayla, Jordan, Chase, Braxton and Teyla Vargeson; sister, Linda and Terry Tubbs; nieces and nephews and many special friends that became like family. He was preceded in death by his parents, wife, Laverna Vargeson; brother, Jim and sister, Janice. As per Dick’s request, there will be no viewing or funeral service. A Memorial Mass will be held at the St. Thomas Catholic Church, Elkland on Tuesday, November 30th at 10:00 AM with Father Joseph Mosley officiating.  Burial will be in Highland Cemetery. In memory of Dick, memorial donations may be made to the St. Jude Children's Research Hospital, 501 St. Jude Place, Memphis, TN 38105.
